WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:

  • Spreading bushy shrub 0.3-1.5 m high angled or flattened resinous branchlets. 
  • 'Leaves' dull grey-green, straight or curved, with thinckened margins and ofter with a distinct bend near the base. 
  • Flowers pale to bright yellow and perfumed, usually June to September. 
  • Seed pods long, flat and narrow, straight or curved, 4/12 cm long, 2-3 mm wide.

WHERE IT GROWS & WHY:

  • Grows in woodland, dry eucalypt forest and mallee communities in inland districts. 
  • Often found on shallow gravelly or stony soils. 
  • Tolerates extended dry periods and frosts. 

MANAGEMENT/SIGNIFICANCE:

  • Useful low level cover in windbreaks.
  • Improves soil by 'fixing' nitrogen.
  • Attractive ornamental for gardens, providing winter flowers. 
  • Good habitat; flowers are a food source for native insects which attract insect-eating birds.
