WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:

  • 1. Erect or spreading shrub growing 1–3 m high 
    2. Branchlets smooth, often reddish 
    3. ‘Leaves’ grey-green, elliptical to obliquely rounded, 1–4 cm long, 3–11 mm wide 
    4. Golden yellow globular flowerheads on fine hairless stalks in loose racemes, often profuse; flowering July to November 
    5. Seed pods straight or curved, 5–9 cm long, 5–8 mm wide, pale brown at maturity, sometimes with a whitish bloom 
    An erect but compact shrub, growing to around a 1.5  m high and 1.5 m wide. 
  • Large bright red bottlebrush flowers in abundance, in spring/summer and autumn. 
  • Has smaller foliage and is tighter and smaller in habit than many other varieties, with a slightly cascading habit.

WHERE IT GROWS & WHY:

  • Frost and drought tolerant
  • Suits most soils, best in well drained.             

MANAGEMENT/SIGNIFICANCE:

  • Attractive to birds and insects. 
  • Small, narrow leaves make this a great hedge plant.
